As a lifelong New Yorker, I, Anthony Russo, have always been fascinated by how names can connect people and ideas. Growing up in Brooklyn, surrounded by a rich tapestry of cultures and communities, I saw firsthand how a good name could bring people together—whether it was the name of a local sports team, a neighborhood group, or a community project.
The idea for this website began to take shape during my time at Columbia University, where I studied Communication and Linguistics. I was captivated by the art and science of naming, from the way words resonate with people to their ability to evoke emotion and identity. My MBA journey at NYU Stern deepened this interest, providing me with the tools to understand the strategic importance of branding and its application to teams and organizations.
After graduation, I spent over a decade working in branding and consulting, helping businesses, sports teams, and organizations find names that aligned with their missions. While I loved my work, I noticed a gap: individuals and smaller groups often struggled to find the perfect team name without access to expert guidance.
